The News Was Right!

This week, the Japanese news was filled with dire warnings of a dust storm migrating from China to Japan. Masks and holing up at home were recommended strongly.

Now, I've seen Ken Burns' "The Dust Bowl" (which was absolutely amazing by the way). I think that qualifies me as a dust cloud expert, right? Also, I'm from America, land of 24-hour, sensationalist, how-is-this-news, news.

So, Japan said dust storm, I said, "pshaw."

Y'all. That dust storm was for real.

I took this with my phone, while in a hurry to get back inside. I apologize to my in-laws, who are great photographers, and also too nice to say to my face that my pictures are pretty much the worst. But at least I didn't put an Instagram filter on it, right?

So, to give it a bit of context, usually you can see the sky behind those buildings. You can see other buildings. You can see mountains in the distance.

Did anyone see "Ghost Protocol"? It was kind of like that.

I went with a friend to Yokohama for a bit of shopping. We went into the craft store, tooled around for like, an hour, came out, and the sun had been blocked out by a big, brown, cloud. It was kind of worrying.

Most people wore masks. Bryce and I opted to stay inside as much as possible. By stay inside, I of course mean, we went in a lot of stores. I didn't intend to buy anything, but I ended up with fabric, three erasable pens, a new teapot, shower gel, and two Krispy Kreme donuts. Despite the cloud, a successful day.
